The Placement Unit is responsible for authorizing and ensuring the appropriate placement of all youth newly committed or recommitted to the custody of OJA by statewide district courts or those custody youth requiring a change of placement.

An appropriate placement is considered one which best meets the treatment needs of the youth while affording adequate protection of the public, utilization of the least restrictive mandates and when possible, is in the closest proximity to the youth’s home. Placement possibilities include: therapeutic foster care, specialized community home, group homes or secure care treatment facilities.
